  • Who are Cambuslang Harriers?

    Cambuslang Harriers, since its formation in 1948, has become one of the premier cross country and road running clubs across all age groups in Scotland. We also have a very talented girls and ladies group who now regularly win major team honours.

    CAMBUSLANG HARRIERS LIFT 3 TEAM MEDALS AT THE WEST DISTRICT CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS

    A number of Cambuslang Harriers contested the West District Cross Country Championships at Kilmarnock. First off for the club were Ross Barclay and Jack Gillon in the U13 Boys Event. Both ran well to achieve 17th and 22nd place. U15 Olivia McNicol finished ahead of Martha Fleming and in the corresponding Boys’ Race Daibhidh Kinnaird reinforced his potential by taking 5th spot and thus clinched an automatic berth in the U15 West Team for the Inter District Championships in January.     THE WEST CROSS COUNTRY LEAGUE FINALLY GETS UNDERWAY

    After much discussion the inaugural meeting of the West Cross Country League took place at Strathaven with a further 2 meetings planned for January and February at Kilmarnock and Bellahouston Park.  Cambuslang Harriers’ President Des Dickson had engaged with other West Club Officials to make the League happen.  The thinking behind the League is to give more opportunities for athletes in the West of Scotland to race on the country as their fellow athletes in the North and East of Scotland have operated their own XC Leagues for several decades.  The competition rules have been deliberately kept simple.  Any athlete […]

    Seven Cambuslang Athletes Represent Scotland in the British and Irish Masters Cross Country International Championships

    The Scottish Short Course Championships for all age categories over 15 were staged once again at Kirkcaldy.  The over 15 and 17 athletes competed over 2K with the older groups covering 4K.  Cambuslang Harrier 10th placed Daibhidh Kinnaird ran strongly in the U15 boys event and with support from Euan Reid and Alistair McLachlan the team finished 11th.  In the same age group Olivia McNicol headed Martha Fleming.  Under 17 Finlay Robb just got the better of Sam McCarthy on this occasion with Chris Black not too far behind which gave the trio 7th spot in the team competition.  Gabriel […]

    CAMBUSLANG HARRIERS OVER 50 MEN WIN SCOTTISH AND UK CROSS COUNTRY RELAY MEDALS

    Cambuslang Harriers O50 male runners won team medals over consecutive weekends both in Scotland and in England.  The M50 trio of Brian Douglas, Mark Gallacher and Chris Upson lifted the silver medals at the Scottish XC Relays held over the testing and muddy Cumbernauld course.  Brian, on the comeback trail after a prolonged injury, handed over to Mark in 7th place, who in turn overtook 3 runners before Chris passed 2 more.     CAMBUSLANG HARRIERS AMONG THE MEDALS AT THE SCOTTISH HALF MARATHON CHAMPIONSHIPS.

    During early October the focus was on road running with members of Cambuslang Harriers participating in the Glasgow Half Marathon and 10K as well as the London, Loch Ness and Chicago Marathons. In the Glasgow Half which incorporated the Scottish Half Marathon Championships the club won team silver in the ladies and men’s championships along with 2 individual medals. Excellent runs by Lesley Blackwood, Nathalie Brohan and Kirsty O’Brien and similarly by their male counterparts Fraser Stewart, Stuart McGeachy and Steven Fitzpatrick sealed the 2nd team spots.     EIGHT CAMBUSLANG HARRIERS SELECTED TO REPRESENT SCOTLAND IN DUBLIN

    The Scottish Veteran Harriers held a trial at Tollcross Park for the upcoming Masters XC International Event to be staged in Dublin in November.  In the 4 different male age groups between the ages of 35 and 54 the first 3 finishers would gain automatic selection with an additional 3 athletes being selected on known form.  Similarly in the older men’s age groups the first 2 finishers would be selected along with a further 2 on current form.   Cambuslang’s Paul Thompson in finishing the first M65 in the 6K event gained automatic selection.   It’s remarkable how Paul manages to keep […]

    SAM AND KIRSTY LEAD CAMBUSLANG HARRIERS UNDER 17 MEN AND SENIOR LADIES TO TEAM GOLD IN THE SCOTTISH TRAIL RUNNING CHAMPIONSHIPS

    Members of Cambuslang Harriers have been very active in recent weeks off road, on road and track as well as well as participating in triathlon events.   The club picked up an individual gold, 3 individual bronze medals and 2 team gold medals at the Scottish National Trail Race at Falkland Estate in Fife.   Sam McCarthy ran superbly to take first place and with strong support from bronze medallist Finlay Robb and 7th placed Chris Black the U17 trio were convincing winners.  Cameron Taylor was the 4th Cambuslang athlete to finish.  The senior women also scooped team gold thanks to […]

    CAMBUSLANG ATHLETES REPRESENTING GB, THE CZECH REPUBLIC AND SCOTLAND

    Members of Cambuslang Harriers have recently been in action at the European Triathlon and Athletics Championships in a very warm Munich, the Scottish U17 and Senior Track Championships in Aberdeen, the Scottish National Mid Distance Triathlon Championship in Aberfeldy, the Antrim Half Marathon and in various local road races.   Grant Sheldon followed up his 5th place for Scotland in the Commonwealth Games by coming home in 15th spot and first finisher for the GB team in the European Triathlon Event.  These 2 excellent performances have helped to reinstate Grant into the World’s Top 100 Rankings.  Moira Stewart representing the […]

    GRANT SHELDON FINISHES 5TH FOR SCOTLAND IN THE COMMONWEALTH GAMES INDIVIDUAL TRIATHLON EVENT

    Cambuslang Harrier Grant Sheldon in his 3rd Commonwealth Games achieved his best position to date when finishing a superb 5th ahead of some of his more fancied rivals in the Individual Triathlon Event at Birmingham.  In a star studded line up he came through strongly in the 3rd and last discipline, the 5K run, to move up to 5th behind event winner England’s Alex Yee, New Zealander Hayden Wilde and 2 Australians.     CAMBUSLANG MASTERS MEN ARE AMONG THE MEDALS

    The last few weeks have been a quieter time for members of Cambuslang Harriers.  The major event during this period has been the Scottish Masters Track Championships held at Dundee.  Although only 3 members participated, they lifted 5 medals between them.  M55 Chris Upson won double gold medals, M50 Mark Gallacher silver and bronze and M60 Dave Thom a silver medal.  Chris was victorious in both his 800 and 1500M races, Mark secured his bronze in the 800M with a pb and silver in the 1500M while Dave gained silver in the M60 5000M age group.  Meanwhile Cameron Smith, Jamie […]
