Cambuslang Harriers, since its formation in 1948, has become one of the premier cross country and road running clubs across all age groups in Scotland. We also have a very talented girls and ladies group who now regularly win major team honours.
THE SCOTTISH MEDAL HAUL FOR CAMBUSLANG HARRIERS CONTINUES
The Scottish 10K Road Championships was incorporated for the first time into the Babcock Shettleston 10K Event staged over a 2 lap course in Glasgow Green. 18 Cambuslang members toed the starting line in expectation of some good individual and team performances and they were not disappointed in this respect. At the post race presentation 4 national individual and 2 team medals were awarded to club members. ROAD, TRACK, HILL AND DUATHLON SUCCESSES FOR CAMBUSLANG ATHLETES
Over the last few weeks members of Cambuslang Harriers have performed with distinction in road, track, hill and duathlon events. The London Marathon attracts not only elite, club and fun runners but also those wishing to raise funds for their own particular charity. Nine Cambuslang members were participating this year in the event. Scottish Half Marathon Champion Fraser Stewart had been given the honour of an elite entry and he fully justified the offer he was given by setting a pb of 2.18.34 and finishing 3rd Scottish runner. CAMBUSLANG HARRIERS SENIOR LADIES CONTEST THE ENGLISH 6 STAGE ROAD RELAYS FOR THE FIRST TIME
Cambuslang Harriers male and female senior teams made a spectacular start to the month of April when medalling in the 59th Tom Scott Memorial Road Race which also incorporated the Scottish 10 miles Road Championships. Fraser Stewart, Mike Christoforou and Ryan Thomson in 2nd, 4th and 6th positions were comfortable winners ahead of a strong Moray Road Runners team while Lesley Blackwood, Nathalie Brohan and Kirsty O’Brien pipped Giffnock AC on countback for the bronze medals. A REWARDING MONTH FOR CAMBUSLANG HARRIERS
The month of March has been a fruitful one for Cambuslang Harriers. In the Scottish Young Athletes Road Races the U17 men equalled their national bronze medal cross country performance thanks to Zack Haggerty, Finlay Robb and Zach Seenan. Jonathan Dow who is working his way back to full fitness was only 15 seconds behind Finlay and Zach. New member Logan Morrison split his team mates Rory Barclay and Jack Gillon to help the U13 boys to 4th place in the team event. MEMBERS OF CAMBUSLANG HARRIERS HIT THE ROADS
There has been a flurry of road races from the 3K up to the marathon distance in the last 2 weeks and the famous red and white vests have been out in force in Cambuslang, Inverness, Alloa, Cambridge, Callander, Edinburgh and even as far away as Tokyo. Numerous pbs have been achieved by our athletes in addition to Fraser Stewart being crowned the Scottish Half Marathon Champion and Erica Christie being awarded the W60 bronze medal. CAMBUSLANG HARRIERS UNDER 17 MEN AND SENIOR MEN LIFT SCOTTISH CROSS COUNTRY TEAM BRONZE MEDALS
The Scottish Cross Country Championships at Falkirk were blessed this year with dry weather which made running conditions more favourable for the athletes apart from a few who revel in the glorious mud. Cambuslang Harriers came away with 2 team bronze medals courtesy of the U17 men and the senior men and the senior women achieved their best finishing position ever taking 6th spot. CAMBUSLANG HARRIERS’ 75TH ANNIVERSARY YEAR STARTS WELL
Cambuslang Harriers’ Masters made an excellent start to 2023 in competitions indoors, on the country and on the road. This is a particularly important year for the club as it will celebrate its 75th anniversary in November. In the Scottish Masters 3000M Indoor Championships Jacqueline Etherington, on the comeback trail after injury, picked up the W40 title while M55 Chris Upson gained a silver medal.
