Cambuslang Harriers, since its formation in 1948, has become one of the premier cross country and road running clubs across all age groups in Scotland. We also have a very talented girls and ladies group who now regularly win major team honours.
After a 2 years absence the Scottish Short Course Championships made a welcome return to Lanark Race Course. The dry weather conditions were in sharp contrast to the very heavy rain there in 2021. Nearby Tinto Hill was clearly visible in the distance whereas previously it was hidden from sight by the very low clouds. Cambuslang Harriers fielded teams in the U15 boys and U17 men’s 2K and 3K events and in the separate 4K races for the senior/master women and men. Teamwise the highlight was a silver medal for the senior men while the U15 boys in 4th place […]
The West District Relay Championships at Alexandra Park ushered in the autumn cross country season. Unfortunately the weather the day before and on the morning of the event resulted in numerous road closures due to flooding. Some clubs such as Inverclyde AC could not travel and Cambuslang Harriers lost the services of Kenny Campbell who was due to run the first leg for the M40 team. Kenny and his wife Jennifer had set out early from their home in Campbeltown but had to abandon their journey on account of road flooding and an avalanche. M50 Mark King and senior lady […]
4 Cambuslang athletes, Colin Feechan, Dave Thom, Chris Upson and Jacqueline Etherington flew the flag for the club in the European Track and Non Stada Championships in Italy. All 4 either achieved or indeed exceeded their private expectations and did themselves, their families, club, Scotland and Great Britain proud by bringing home 5 individual European gold, 2 individual bronze medals, 2 team gold and 1 team silver as well as setting 2 new age group Scottish Masters records. Colin who had only turned 65 on the eve of the Championships put on an impressive display of strong running to lift […]
August and early September was a busy time for Cambuslang’s road, track and hill runners as well as triathletes. There was a number of local road races along with the Ladies World Marathon Championships in Budapest where Moira Stewart represented the Czech Republic. In very warm and humid conditions she performed very well to record the time of 2.34.02 for 26th place. The temperature was already 24 degrees at the 7.00am starting time and reached 28 degrees by the finish. At the Bute 10K Chris Upson lifted the M60 award while senior ladies Catriona Bain and new member Natalie McWilliams […]
Members of Cambuslang Harriers have again been active in late July and early August both in triathlon, track, road and hill running events. Congratulations go to Zach Seenan who gained a silver medal in the U20 British Standard Distance Triathlon Championships at Sunderland. This major success came only a few weeks after he had lifted the U20 Scottish Aquathlon title along with the overall silver medal. Zach only joined the Harriers in late 2022 and during that time he has managed to pick up 2 Scottish U17 team bronze medals on country and road. According to his running coach, Colin […]
Over the last few weeks members of Cambuslang Harriers have competed on road, track, hills and trail as well as participating in triathlon and aquathon events. 10 club athletes lined up for the midweek Scottish Veterans 5K Road Race at Clydebank. First Cambuslang runner home was M35 Steven Fitzpatrick in a time of 16.05 which was only 10 seconds outside his pb. He was followed in by M50 Mark King whose time of 16.59 was his first sub 17 minutes clocking. The leading M60 Dave Thom crossed the line only 7 seconds behind Mark. The last time David had run […]
Unfortunately Cambuslang Harriers do not have a track in Cambuslang or Rutherglen and have to travel to either Crownpoint in Glasgow or to East Kilbride to fit in track sessions. However, this did not deter Chris McLew, Gavin Smith and Jamie MacKinnon from breaking the 11 years old Scottish Senior 3 x 800M Relay Record held by a Giffnock North team which included the current European silver medallist Neil Gourley. The Cambuslang trio knocked over 2 seconds from the previous national record and over 13 seconds from the existing club record set in 1997 by Graeme Ferguson, David MacRae and […]
Members of Cambuslang Harriers have been active in road, track, hill and trail competitions mainly in Scotland but also as far afield as England, France and the USA. Kevan Harvey and Stuart Gibson were 2nd and 4th at the Land of Burns 10K. The following evening in the final Babcock 10K at Dumbarton Ryan Thomson finished runner up and Lesley Blackwood filled the 3rd senior lady spot. M60 Dave Thom and W60 Erica Christie won their age categories and Brian Douglas was 3rd in the M50 age group. There were good performances too from Steven Fitzpatrick, Dougie Gillon, Kevin Farmer, […]
The Scottish 10K Road Championships was incorporated for the first time into the Babcock Shettleston 10K Event staged over a 2 lap course in Glasgow Green. 18 Cambuslang members toed the starting line in expectation of some good individual and team performances and they were not disappointed in this respect. At the post race presentation 4 national individual and 2 team medals were awarded to club members. Club secretary Dave Thom continued his current purple patch to come home first in the M60 age group and club president Des Dickson showed a return to form in taking the silver medal […]
Over the last few weeks members of Cambuslang Harriers have performed with distinction in road, track, hill and duathlon events. The London Marathon attracts not only elite, club and fun runners but also those wishing to raise funds for their own particular charity. Nine Cambuslang members were participating this year in the event. Scottish Half Marathon Champion Fraser Stewart had been given the honour of an elite entry and he fully justified the offer he was given by setting a pb of 2.18.34 and finishing 3rd Scottish runner. This gained him an individual Scottish bronze medal in the incorporated Scottish […]
