Lanarkshire XC Champs 17/11/12

A dry bright day at Drumpellier Country Park.
Despite this race being a counter towards the club senior championship, it remains a low key event, although numbers appeared to be slightly up on last year. For the senior four lap race four vets and two of the newer seniors turned out.

British & Irish Masters XC in Belfast

Seven club members represented the Scottish Vets at this annual international XC race on Saturday, this year the venue was in Belfast over a muddy course at Queens University grounds.

All of our 7 athletes acquitted themselves well and were all counting members for their respective Scottish age group teams, ranging from M35’s to M50’s, with Johnny MacNamara (M35), Kerry Wilson (M40) and Charlie Thomson (M45) being first counters for their country. Greg Hastie and Kenny MacPherson backed up Kerry in the M40 race, whilst Iain Campbell and Colin Feechan competed in the M50 category.
Best individual performances from the club were from Kerry and Charlie who both finished 5th in their respective age groups. With 7 runners, the club had the highest representation of any individual Scottish club and with top competition and great camaraderie they will be aiming for selection again next year alongside some more club veterans.

Dave C’s report on Scottish 4k CC Champs

Congrats to our senior men team of Stuart 10th, Wegene 11th, Ben 18th and Davey 19th who took the silver medal behind Central with Corstorphine taking the bronze.  Spare a thought for Iain who missed a medal by 1 place/2seconds and Jack (6th under 20) who was a further 6 seconds adrift.  The club was well supported in this race with our next finishers in order being Alastair, George, Scott, Alick and Robert R.

History was made when for the first time we fielded and finished a team in the ladies race.  Our 3 counters were all under 20 and were led home by Alex 17th/ 6th under 20, Katie 26/10th under 20 and Sarah in 46th position. The girls were rewarded with a very creditable 6th place.  Although Kirsty A put herself on the line she was forced to drop out due to laryngitis, a problem she has had since returning from her triathlon expereiences in New Zealand.

In the accompanying development races Eve finished first in the under 17 event with Niamh second in the under 15 age groupt.  David R finished in 4th spot just outside the medals in the under 17 race with Ryan M 10th. Under 13 Eamon who had done the parkrun the day before was 8th.  Well done to all of them.

Most of the younger athletes were saving themselves for next week’s Lanarkshire XC championships which count towards the club championships and then Liverpool the week after.  More information will follow later regarding the Lanarkshire event although a timetable was posted last week.
